Discus Dental has released a nanohybrid, universal composite, Nuance, that makes creating aesthetic restorations simple by combining proprietary filler particles that mimic the optical properties of tooth structure with a simple delivery system, according to the company.
Nuance virtually eliminates the need for multishade layering, the company said. The material contains proprietary multifaceted fillers that both reflect and refract light, mimicking the opacity, translucency, and optical characteristics of tooth structure. Thus, in thinner areas, such as the incisal edge, it appears translucent, while on the main tooth body it absorbs and refracts light creating a dentinlike depth. This means one body shade can be used for the entire restoration rather than needing to layer dentin, body, and enamel shades, the company noted.
The Nuance syringe is also unique, Discus Dental said. It is rectangular, making it easy to grip when extruding material; requires approximately half the force of the leading composite to extrude material; and has soft rubber pads for turning. It also features a unique dispensing capability, the company noted: the syringe comes with 4 grams of material, but with every half turn (identified with a click), it delivers a "unit dose" of up to 0.1 gram of material.
In related news, Discus Dental has redesigned its website to make purchasing products easier and give doctors and staff in-depth information about products they're considering buying, such as educational materials, product images, demonstration videos, material safety data sheets (MSDS), directions for use (DFU), and awards. Users can navigate the site by product, product category, or brand, and also can focus on specialties, such as endodontics, the company noted.
