Astra Tech makes Atlantis abutments for NobelActive

Astra Tech is now making Atlantis abutments for the NobelActive NP 3.5 and RP 4.3, 5.0 implants for North American customers. Astra Tech provides patient-specific abutments in a choice of four material options: titanium, gold-shaded titanium, white zirconia, and shaded zirconia.

This introduction is the latest in a series of Atlantis abutments being developed for new implant interfaces such as the Straumann Bone Level implants. Astra Tech plans to introduce additional interfaces and material choices for the Atlantis patient-specific solution in 2010, the company said.

Atlantis abutments are designed and fabricated using Atlantis Virtual Abutment Design software, a process that combines 3D optical scanning, software, and manufacturing methods to deliver patient-specific abutments intended to eliminate the need for hand modification.

In 2007, Astra Tech acquired Atlantis Components. The acquisition gave Astra Tech access to the company's CAD/CAM technology for patient-specific abutments.
