AAP installs new leadership

Joan Otomo-Corgel, DDS, MPH, a periodontist from Manhattan Beach, CA, has been installed as the new president of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) during its 100th anniversary annual meeting in San Francisco.

The AAP also installed other new leadership, including President-elect Wayne Aldredge, DMD, of New Jersey; Vice President Terrence J. Griffin, DMD, of Massachusetts; Secretary/Treasurer Steven Daniel, DDS, of Tennessee; and Stuart Froum, DDS, of New York will serve as immediate past president.

Along with maintaining a private practice, Dr. Otomo-Corgel is chair of research at the Greater Los Angeles Veteran's Affairs Health Care Center and an associate clinical professor in the department of periodontics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Dentistry.

"I am excited about the opportunity to serve the specialty of periodontics as it enters its second century," Dr. Otomo-Corgel stated in a press release. "What an exciting time for the AAP to expand its knowledge to best care for the health of the public we serve."
