Interleukin Genetics has initiated two clinical studies to demonstrate the utility of its new PST genetic test in Asian populations.
PST identifies individuals with increased risk for severe and progressive periodontal disease and significant tooth loss based on a proprietary panel of genetic variations that predispose an individual to overexpress inflammation.
The programs are being conducted in collaboration with Professor Chi-Cheng Tsai of Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan and Professor Dong Chen at Shanghai Stomatological Disease Center in China.
In August 2010, Interleukin Genetics initiated a landmark clinical study at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry using a new version of the PST genetic test. The study is designed to test whether risk factors, including genetic information, can guide more successful intervention, thus reducing the adverse outcomes of periodontal disease.
