Florida police have arrested a pawn shop owner and two employees who are suspected of being part of an organized theft ring that stole more than $3 million worth of dental hygiene products, according to a story by CBS News.
After serving a search warrant, Palm Beach County Sheriff deputies discovered dozens of unopened boxes containing Crest Whitestrips and other products such as Sonicare toothbrushes at Citi Pawn in Boca Raton.
The owner had more than $3 million worth of expensive dental hygiene products stolen from several area pharmacies such as Walgreens and CVS by people known as "boosters," according to investigators. The boosters brought the products to places like Citi Pawn and sold them to the employees, who would then sell them over the Internet, the story stated.
Such thefts are common across the country, according to a Walgreens spokesman.
Manager Igor Roytikh, 44, and employees Lauren Ann Healy, 23, and Brian Hegmann, 26, were charged with dealing in stolen property and aggravated retail theft, the story stated.
