Cedars-Sinai Hospital's COACH for Kids and Their Families mobile medical program has been selected as one of 20 U.S. school-based programs to receive a $15,000 grant from the National Assembly on School-based Health Care (NASBHC) to increase oral health services to students in underserved communities.
The grant will provide additional training to the program's clinicians across 14 Los Angeles elementary schools and enable them to offer fluoride varnish treatment as part of their dental services.
NASBHC aims to expand and strengthen school-based health programs. Recipients of each $15,000 grant, funded by Kaiser Permanente, will conduct oral health screenings and education, apply fluoride varnish, and ensure treatment for kids with cavities and other dental problems. Clinicians will be trained to administer fluoride varnishes, courtesy of the nonprofit Oral Health America, which is donating 5,000 units of fluoride varnish.
