About 600 preschool children in Wisconsin's Waukesha and Milwaukee counties will receive $30,000 in free dental exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, and personal oral hygiene instruction during the 12th annual Head Start Dental Day, the Wisconsin Dental Association (WDA) announced.
An estimated 550 children enrolled in Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) and Social Development Commission (SDC) Head Start programs will receive care on October 2 at the Marquette University School of Dentistry (MUSOD).
Another 50 preschoolers will be welcomed at the Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) dental hygiene clinic in Pewaukee.
This annual oral healthcare and education event has provided more than 5,000 children with dental exams and care since 1999, the WDA noted.
Head Start Dental Day is organized by representatives of the Greater Milwaukee Dental Association, Wisconsin Dental Hygienists' Association, Children's Health Alliance of Wisconsin, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Dental Clinic, Milwaukee Area Health Education Center, and the MPS and SDC Head Start programs.
More than 200 volunteer dentists and dental hygienists, along with student clinicians and dental hygiene faculty from MUSOD, WCTC, and Milwaukee Area Technical College will participate. Volunteers from MPS and Milwaukee and Waukesha county Head Start programs also will help out.
