Brain-Pad has introduced a new athletic mouthguard with improved features for energy absorption and lower jaw protection, the company announced.
The 3XS professional model is designed for high-impact sports, including football, boxing, ice hockey, and mixed martial arts.
Like all Brain-Pad mouthguards, the 3XS model is a dual-arch, bimolar mouthguard that repositions the lower jaw while protecting both the upper and lower teeth. But new GelForm pads inserted into the molar area adds 40% more absorption, according to Brain-Pad.
"Ninety percent of concussions resulting in unconsciousness are caused by impact to the lower jaw," said Joe Manzo, president of Brain-Pad, in a press release. "This is a vulnerable area that traditional mouthguards do very little to protect."
With 3XS, the jaw is stabilized into a neutral position, creating a safety space at the base of the skull that greatly reduces the risk of jaw impact concussions and temporomandibular joint injuries, said the company, adding that the Brain-Pad mouthguards also open the airway in the throat 100%, allowing users to breathe better, which it described as a competitive advantage for athletes.
Brain-Pad mouthguards are available at leading U.S. athletic retailers, including Wal-Mart stores. The 3XS model retails for $34.95 and comes with a helmet strap and a hard-shell, antimicrobial storage case with handle.
