Spondylitis group launches survey for dentists, hygienists

The Spondylitis Association of America (SAA), the largest nonprofit organization in the U.S. dedicated to seeking a cure for ankylosing spondylitis and related diseases, is sponsoring a survey to help dental professionals better understand this debilitating disease.

Spondylitis is the name given to a group of chronic or long-lasting diseases that primarily affect the spine and other joints.

The survey is intended for dentists and hygienists who have treated patients with spondyloarthritis and those who have not.

Anonymous information gathered through the survey will be used to determine access to care, understanding of spondyloarthritis as a disease by the dental profession, and precautions that should be taken when providing dental treatment to individuals with the disease. A corresponding survey will be sent out to those affected by spondyloarthritis to obtain further information.

The information gathered by the survey will be used as part of an article being developed by the SAA, "Dentistry and Individuals Affected by Spondyloarthritis." All information provided by survey respondents will be considered strictly confidential.
