New toothpaste contains 1.1% sodium fluoride

Research Based Preventive Products has introduced a new formulation of 1.1% sodium fluoride toothpaste (5,000 parts per million) called Denticious 5000. According to the company, 1.1% sodium fluoride toothpaste has been shown to remineralize tooth structure and can prevent cavities and white spot lesions.

Dentists have been involved in the development of this product since its inception, the company noted in a press release. Their input has helped produce a product with many advantages over older 5,000 ppm formulations, including a larger pump that is easier to "sell" than the 2 oz. tubes, the release said. The "all in one" nature of a toothpaste and 5,000 ppm fluoride also eliminates the extra step of brushing prior to using a nightly fluoride gel.

The product contains xylitol and does not have sodium lauryl sulphate, which has been shown to increase mouth sores and prohibit the uptake of the fluoride. It is available in Refreshing Wintermint and Bubblegum Blast and is ideal for patients with poor oral hygiene, a history of root caries and orthodontic cases, the company said.
