A 31-year-old Ohio man passed away in April of a blood infection stemming from a tooth infection.
John Schneider delayed going to the doctor for what he believed to be a sinus infection because he thought he could not afford treatment, according to a report by WLWT 5 News in Cincinnati. He checked into the hospital in March, where doctors learned that his tooth infection had turned into sepsis. After the infection quickly spread, his vital organs shut down and doctors performed open-heart surgery on April 16. He passed away early the next morning.
His grieving family is urging others to learn from their experience and to go to the dentist regularly.
