The American Association of Endodontists is gearing up for the 2012 Root Canal Awareness Week (March 25-31), a national effort to raise awareness of endodontists.
While 63% of Americans want to avoid getting a root canal, even more (69%) want to avoid losing a permanant tooth -- something a root canal procedure can help to prevent, according to the AAE.
Unfortunately, the fear of root canals is based on outdated misconceptions, and previous surveys found that 89% of patients were satisfied when they received treatment from an endodontist, the AAE said in a press release.
The AAE suggests that members use Root Canal Awareness Week to inform the public that root canal treatment isn't the myth they have come to accept and that endodontists can provide a relaxing and virtually pain-free experience. The organization is offering a Member Planning Guide, which includes information about working with local media, a Root Canal Awareness Week poster, logos for a practice's website, and more.
