Week in Review: Why closing is the right move | How you and your business can stay productive | How teeth tell a lifetime of stories

Dear DrBicuspid Member,

When it comes to dentists I respect in this industry, two who are among those at the top of the list are Drs. David Rice and Sheri Doniger.

I'm lucky enough to work with Dr. Rice, our clinical editor, every day through IgniteDDS and IgniteDA, as well as what we do here at DrBicuspid.com. I've also been seeing a lot more of him lately as IgniteDDS has been hosting Facebook Live events on its Facebook page every weekday at 12 noon ET/9 a.m. PT. We serve as the co-hosts for the short meetings in which we bring on a guest from the industry to give advice during these historic days. Join us on Facebook if you have time to see what it's all about.

Dr. Rice also recently gave some great advice on whether dental practices should be open or closed during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak. His thoughts, via article and video, are well worth your time, I believe.

Meanwhile, Dr. Doniger put together a solid article on how dental practices (and dentists and team members) can stay productive during a very quiet time in our industry. It's a good read, and I always appreciate her sharing her thoughts as a solo practitioner.

Also, in case you missed it, new DrBicuspid.com contributor Catrinel Hagivreta made her debut this week with an article that many of you loved on some hiring advice every dental practice should be heeding during this time as well. We know dentistry and the needs of your patients will come back. How are you preparing to have the best team possible in place when this crisis is over?

Away from the pandemic, there has also been some interesting news this week. An article on a new study from Scientific Reports on the stories your teeth could tell was fascinating to me. I think you just might discover something new about teeth by reading it.

Finally, chemicals found in cannabis or cannabinoids may be more effective at reducing bacteria associated with dental plaque than well-established synthetic oral care products, according to a recent study.

In this unprecedented time, we hope you stay safe, healthy, and educated.
