Georgia lawmakers voted in favor of a new bill that, if passed by the state Senate and signed into law, would provide access to free dental services to low-income residents.

On February 26, the Georgia House of Representatives unanimously passed HB 521, which would allow non-Georgia licensed dentists and dental hygienists to provide dental treatment and services to low-income residents on a voluntary basis.

If signed into law, the bill would provide temporary, limited licenses to dentists and dental hygienists to practice in the state at free and charitable events under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist in Georgia.

The bill has moved on to the state senate. On February 27, the senate referred the bill to its health and human services committee for review.
