A Florida dentist and one of the world's most enthusiastic video game collectors recently spent about $1 million to acquire approximately 40 classic titles, according to news reports.

Eric Naierman, DDS, of EN Smile Design in Hollywood, FL, bought factory-sealed, mostly first-edition releases of the games.

Experts in the industry say it may be one of the most prominent collections, in terms of value and rarity, in the world. Over approximately a combined 50 years, Dr. Naierman and a few other partners managed to obtain "cream of the crop," never-used, black-box copies of Nintendo Entertainment System games, including suspected one-of-a-kind games "Balloon Fight" (1986) and "Gumshoe" (1986), according to reports.

Experts say the collection and the prices they paid for the items show a real turning point in gaming.
