Week in Review: Children's dental health; marketing your practice; inventory issues

Dear DrBicuspid Member,

In her latest Sheri's Solutions, Dr. Sheri Doniger writes about some of the many ways you can make a difference in your community during Children's Dental Health Month, including directly talking to those most affected by oral health issues, your community's children.

Over 40% of more than 1,000 U.S. adults surveyed believe they have little or no control over whether they get a cavity, according to a new Children's Dental Health Project survey. In fact, only 57% of respondents even believe they have "significant control" over getting a cavity. Read more here.

A truly effective marketing program will consist of more than a dozen ongoing strategies. For this to work, however, you have to know how each strategy is doing and be prepared to change the lineup at the first sign of trouble, according to Dr. Roger P. Levin.

While it might seem basic, managing your inventory is an integral part of an efficient dental practice. But, as practice management consultant Teresa Duncan writes, inventory management is often not addressed until it becomes a drain on your cash flow and your bottom line. She offers some tips to keep your inventory issues under control.

In the next few weeks, we'll be featuring content from speakers participating in our Women in Dentistry conference. Please visit the conference's site and consider registering. We've got some of the most interesting names in dentistry presenting, including Dr. Carol Gomez Summerhays, Rella and Dr. Gordon Christensen, Dr. Desirée Walker, Dr. Sheri Doniger, and more. Looking forward to seeing you there.
