Oregon-based dental services provider Advantage Dental was hacked in February through a company computer infected with malware. The hackers accessed the protected health information of 151,626 patients, including their names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and home addresses.
The hack occurred between February 23 and 26, and Advantage stopped the unauthorized access once it discovered the problem on February 26. The company is currently working to notify the patients who were affected.
Since the attack, Advantage has improved its safeguards and is working with law enforcement to determine the scope of the incident. The dental provider, which covers more than 300,000 of the state's Medicaid beneficiaries, currently does not believe the information was used for criminal activity. It is offering identity theft and credit monitoring to affected patients.
