Do's and don'ts for building trust

Successful practices are built on trust. To get anything done, your team must trust you. To have anybody want treatment, your patients must trust you. However, for most people, building trust doesn't come naturally. Practice leaders and their staff must continually follow a set of rules or principles to gain the trust needed for success.

Do

Always follow through on your commitments. Develop the habit of following through on anything you say you're going to do. When you honor your commitment, you become a practice that patients will gravitate to because they know you will follow through while so many others do not.

Don

Don't forget to make decisions that are in the best interest of the other person. To create more trust, simply make the best decision for the other party. Stop thinking about your practice or yourself and focus on the patient. When you make decisions based the best interests of others, people will know that you care about them, and caring is one of the most important factors in building trust.
