Ontario has launched the expanded Healthy Smiles program, giving more than 320,000 children in Canada access to free dental care.
The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care announced the program in 2013 as part of the province's plan to reduce poverty. The program combined six publicly funded dental programs and opened up free care to 70,000 additional children.
Though Health Smiles Ontario, children from low-income families can access preventive, routine, emergency, and essential dental care. It covers visits to a licensed dental provider, cleanings, fillings, and x-rays.
