The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) is not ready to endorse oral health screening and preventive interventions by primary care providers (PCPs) for adults and adolescents at risk of developing certain oral diseases.
The task force recently published draft recommendations for both asymptomatic adults as well as children and adolescents age 5 to 17. In both groups, the task force concluded there is insufficient evidence to assess the balance of benefits and harms of screening and preventive interventions performed by primary care clinicians for oral health conditions such as caries. The USPSTF is accepting comments on both sets of draft recommendations until June 20.
