Forward Science Technologies, the developers of OralID and CytID, has donated a second OralID device as part of its OralID Facebook Charity Campaign to the Free Clinic of Simi Valley in California.
Launched in May, the campaign's goal is to give back to underserved communities and spread public awareness of oral cancer. During the campaign, the company will donate an OralID device to a nonprofit organization for every 500 "Likes" on the OralID Facebook page. The first device was donated to North Carolina Missions of Mercy in July and has already been used to screen the unprivileged population, according to the company.
OralID recently reached its second goal of 1,000 "Likes" on Facebook. Facebook followers voted for the nonprofit organization to which they felt the second screening device should be donated. The Free Clinic of Simi Valley, a volunteer-based community service organization, first opened in 1971 by a small group of individuals who had a passion for caring for the less fortunate individuals of their community.
Forward Science CEO Robert J. Whitman recently visited the clinic and commented on the passion behind it.
"After meeting some of the team at Free Clinic of Simi Valley, it is truly amazing what can be done with so little resources. With so many volunteers, it is great to see a community come together in efforts to give back to the patients who need it most," he stated in a press release. "Now with the ability to screen every patient with OralID, these patients will truly be receiving the best level of care, where they typically could not afford it."
The company plans to continue the charity campaign, and the OralID Facebook page is well on its way to 1,500 "Likes." The company is encouraging dental professionals and volunteers of other nonprofit organizations to "Like" its page and continue to vote for the nonprofit of their choice.
