The Vermont dental community is up in arms over a proposed medical provider tax, saying it will increase the cost of dental services in a state that is already struggling to address access-to-care issues. But lawmakers say the tax would increase Medicaid reimbursements for dentists. Given ongoing budget issues across the U.S., will other states follow suit? Read more.
In other dental news, a former University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey student who was dismissed from the school after his patient suffered two minor cuts during a dental procedure in 2008 has won a $2 million lawsuit against the school. Read more.

Researchers from the University of Alabama created a model for evaluating strain and used it to compare four commercial products. And in Oral Cancer & Diagnostics Community news, oral pain could be a sign of malignant transformation from oral precancer, according to a study in the journal Pain. While pain is recognized as an important symptom of head and neck cancer, early head and neck cancers often go unnoticed because they are asymptomatic, say the researchers.
