Seattle has collected more than $4 million in first-quarter tax revenue from its sugary beverage tax, according to multiple published reports.
Seattle's tax of 1.75¢ per fluid ounce on the distribution of sugary beverages, syrups, and concentrates was approved in June 2017 and took effect on January 1.
City officials expect the revenue figure to increase as more businesses file their taxes, according to a Seattle Times article.
Seattle projects annual expected revenue of almost $15 million from the tax, which will be spent on healthy-food programs, early-learning programs, and other scholarships and administrative costs.
