Oragenics gains U.S. patent for oral bacteria product

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued Patent No. 7931892 to Oragenics for ProBiora3, a proprietary blend of naturally occurring oral bacteria shown to produce a range of oral care benefits.

ProBiora3 contains three strains of beneficial oral bacteria that help maintain a healthy microbial balance in the mouth, the company said.

The patent enables Oragenics to immediately pursue global private label and licensing opportunities in major product categories such as food and beverage, health and wellness, pet care, and nutrition, the company noted.

ProBiora3 was developed by Jeffrey Hillman, DMD, PhD, Oragenics' chief scientific officer, during more than 25 years of research that began at the Forsyth Institute. It is currently available in Oragenics' line of probiotic products for oral care, including EvoraPro, EvoraPlus, EvoraKids, EvoraPet, and Teddy's Pride.
