The ADA has updated recommendations for office procedure hazard assessments related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The updates were published by ADA News and include having a safety plan for exposure control and COVID-19 and repeating hazard assessment regularly as pandemic conditions change. Furthermore, the ADA is advising dentists to stay current with recommendations and resources from federal, state, and local health agencies.
The updated toolkit includes a hazard assessment and hazard assessment checklist. The kit is intended to help dentists assess COVID-19 hazards and make decisions that are best for their individual practices.
The recommendations include continuing to screen patients for COVID-19 before their appointment, as necessary. The ADA also recommends screening staff, nonemployees, and patients before entry to the practice, as well as prohibiting patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 from visiting the office.
Additional updates include using an integrative approach for assessing and managing workplace hazards, including incorporating evidence-based science. The ADA also advises using professional judgement when making decisions.
