Patients of two dental surgery practices in Ayrshire, Scotland, are being offered blood tests after an investigation of the practices' infection-control procedures.
More than 5,000 patients will be notified about the offer to be tested for bloodborne viruses such as HIV and hepatitis B and C, according to an article by EIN News. Patients were first warned in October 2013.
National Health Service (NHS) Ayrshire & Arran stated that the risk of hepatitis C infection was low and lower still for hepatitis B and HIV.
The practices, which are currently being monitored, have corrected their infection-control procedures, the article noted.
