3 dental firms now one global product supplier

SciCan, a Canadian manufacturer of infection control products and solutions with subsidiaries in the U.S., Germany, and Switzerland, has merged with German dental product manufacturer SycoTec and French endodontic specialist Micro-Mega. Together the group will be one of the 10 largest dental equipment manufacturers in the world, the companies announced.

The three firms are being integrated under a single umbrella, but will remain independent entities. The new company, which is still in the process of being named, will be headed by Martin Rickert, managing partner of SycoTec, who will function as executive chairman. Arthur Zwingenberger, head of SciCan, will serve as chairman of the new venture.

"We can now offer clinical instruments, drives, and infection control solutions, all from one source," Rickert said in a press release.

While SycoTec concentrates mainly on drives and specialized motors, Micro-Mega manufactures root canal instruments and handpieces. SciCan complements this range of products with critical procedures used before and after treatment, namely infection control practices, Rickert noted.

The merger will become legally effective within the next few months, according to the companies.
