Biolase Technology has been granted two new U.S. patents related to technologies that are central to the use of consumable laser tips to deliver therapy to patients across a range of dental and other medical specialties, according to a company press release.
Patent No. 7,421,186, Modified-Output Fiber Tips, covers laser tips that can be configured to direct energy in multiple directions away from the handpiece. Patent No. 7,424,199, Fiber Tip Fluid Output Device, covers the situating of a fiber tip within an electromagnetic cutting instrument, as well as directing water particles over the delivery end of that fiber tip.
The new patents come at a time when Biolase is increasing focus on its consumables business and continuing to expand overseas, according to CEO Jake St. Philip.
