Biolase Technology is offering a software upgrade designed to extend the capabilities and useful life of first-generation Waterlase hard- and soft-tissue dental lasers, the company announced in a press release.
The upgrade is intended to provide smoother cutting and increased patient comfort by giving the first-generation lasers variable pulse repetition rates (frequency) similar to the company's latest generation Waterlase MD and Waterlase C100 systems.
The software upgrade comes one month after the introduction of the Waterlase C100, which is due to begin shipping at the end of the current quarter.
The upgrade includes the Waterlase LB 3.0 Operating System, which provides five different repetition rates (from 10-30 Hz) in addition to the original 20 Hz, and a new CPU board.
The upgrade is being launched with the company's exclusive North American distribution partner Henry Schein Dental, and installations will start in Waterlase dentists' offices in September.
