Swedish health tech firm Sigrid Therapeutics unveiled its SiPore technology at the International Dental Show (IDS) 2023 in Germany.
SiPore is composed of micron-sized silica particles, which are a form of synthetic amorphous silica widely used in food and cosmetics. These silica particles can be added to toothpastes, mouth rinses, and other products.
SiPore removes amylase, limiting oral bacteria's access to sugar and restricting the growth of pathogenic bacteria and the formation of dental biofilm and plaque. Though it is compatible with fluoride, SiPore works differently than the mineral. SiPore exerts its effect before a tooth has started to demineralize, according to Sigrid.
The company has filed an international patent application covering oral care compositions comprising SiPore particles.
