Finland-based noise cancellation company QuietOn has announced a program to provide dentists with specialized active noise-canceling earbuds.
The headphones, also called QuietOn, feature a microphone that samples external sound and generates oppositional sound waves to cancel out high- and low-frequency sounds. The company said the technology can mitigate noise from common dental tools, including suction devices and ultrasonic scalers.
The QuietOn headphones feature an earbud design and use specialized tuning. They contain 50 hours of battery life per charge and are a certified hearing protector device in Finland, according to QuietOn. In addition, the earbuds include functionality to make it easy to talk with patients, the company noted.
QuietOn said it created the program based on research that showed dentists are more likely than the general population to experience hearing loss.
