HuFriedyGroup has introduced a new line of Harmony ergonomic scalers and curettes designed with its TrueFit technology.
The sensor-based testing system measures pinch force in the finger and pressure applied to the tooth when scaling. HuFriedyGroup said it used a third-party analytics team to analyze more than 2.8 million data points from hygienists worldwide to develop the new ergonomic scaler.
The handle reduces pinch force by up to 65% compared with other scaler designs, which may alleviate hand fatigue and injury risk due to repetitive motion, the firm said. Also, the tooth surface receives 37% less pressure, which can increase patient comfort and reduce clinician fatigue, HuFriedyGroup added.

The working ends use EverEdge 2.0 technology, and the metal handle features a recessed double-helix texture. The silicone grip has been extended by 30% and provides a secure grasp with a geometric pattern specifically designed for stable grip in any direction, the company said
Harmony is now available for purchase in the U.S.
