Legislation in North Carolina that would affect the relationship between dentists and dental service organizations (DSOs) has been significantly scaled back after both sides called a veritable truce, the News Observer reported.
HB 698/SB 655, called a compromise by groups representing DSOs and the North Carolina Dental Society, has been recommended by the House Health and Human Services Committee and will likely reach the governor's desk within days, according to the News Observer.
The bill requires the State Board of Dental Examiners to add more regulatory oversight to contracts between DSOs and dentists. What sort of scrutiny contracts will receive going forward is uncertain, the article noted, and those details will be sorted out by a six-member task force, with two of them representing the interests of DSOs.
The board of examiners will have to consider the task force's recommendations, which will be delivered in January, but will not be obligated to follow them.
