A $2 million sliding-scale dental clinic opens this week in East Palo Alto, CA, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
The Ravenswood Family Health Center dental clinic, which holds its grand opening April 29, will feature 10 chairs with flat-screen televisions overhead and recovery, education, and anesthesia rooms, according to the report.
The clinic draws on a $1.5 million grant from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation and smaller donations from other benefactors, including the California Dental Association, the newspaper reported. About a third of the clinic's operating costs will come from patient fees, and much of the rest from the U.S. government.
The clinic expects to see 1,800 patients in its first year, eventually serving up to 8,000, 60% of them children, according to the newspaper.
