Hailed as a leader for providing nearly universal healthcare coverage, Massachusetts is mulling proposals to scale back its coverage -- starting with dental benefits, according to an article in the Republican newspaper.
Faced with a steep drop in revenues because of the recession, the state Senate last week proposed to drop dental coverage for 700,000 adults, the newspaper reported.
The cuts would include coverage for 600,000 adults getting Medicaid benefits for a savings of $47 million, according to the report. Another 89,000 adults who make too much money to qualify for Medicaid but still can't afford private insurance would lose benefits for a savings of $10 million.
