Dental hygienists in Wisconsin will be able to practice without the supervision and presence of a dentist in more public health settings thanks to a state bill that was signed into law on June 22.
The bill expands hygienists' independent scope of practice to include outpatient medical clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, group homes, daycare centers, correctional facilities, and charitable institutions. Dental hygienists were previously only allowed to practice without supervision in schools and public health departments.
