Biotech start-up uBiome is donating to Oral Health America's Smiles Across America program and making other donations to support oral disease prevention.
Following its successful Indigogo crowdfunding campaign, uBiome is donating a portion of the money raised to the Smiles Across America program, a nationwide program fighting tooth decay by coordinating schools, government, care providers, and corporate and community sponsors.
The company also announced it will give 50 of its dental microbiome testing kits the University of California, San Francisco Division of Pediatric Dentistry and will also begin mailing hundreds of its test kits to its crowdfunding supporters to study the oral microbiome.
"We've experienced big improvements in oral health over the past few decades in the U.S., but unfortunately this progress hasn't been across the board," stated Jessica Richman, co-founder and CEO of uBiome, in a press release. "In fact the surgeon general refers to a 'silent epidemic' of oral disease affecting some population groups. We believe uBiome has a duty to do whatever it can to help improve oral health."
