Henry Schein announced that Steven Kess, the company's vice president of global professional relations, received the 2015 Harry Strusser Memorial Award from the New York University College of Dentistry (NYUCD) during the college's commencement ceremony on June 1.
The annual award recognizes outstanding contributions to dental public health, with a special emphasis on children's health. The award is named after the late Harry Strusser, DDS, MSPH, who graduated from the NYUCD in 1918. Dr. Strusser was the director of the former bureau of dentistry of New York City's health department.
"Steve has been a leader in the field of public health for decades, during which he has been instrumental in forging innovative public-private partnerships, which have helped advance the promotion of public health on a global scale," stated Charles Bertolami, DDS, the Herman Robert Fox dean and a professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery at NYUCD, in a press release.
Kess is one of the co-founders Henry Schein Cares, the company's global corporate social responsibility program.
In other Henry Schein news, the company has awarded $500 academic scholarships to five dental hygiene students at Farmingdale State College in New York.
Three of the awards went to students earning their associate degree and two to students earning their bachelor's degree, according to the company.
The scholarships were awarded to Shannon McGuickia, Mary Castro, Aileen Bucella, Jenny Diaz, and Briana Limoncelli.
