The Renaissance Family Foundation announced it will award $10,000 to the Kanawha County Dental Health Council in Charleston, WV, to provide funding for a new hygiene unit and dentist chair in its main four-chair dental clinic at West Side Elementary.
The Kanawha County Dental Health Council supports seven free school-based dental clinics that serves more than 2,000 students each year. These students come from families whose income is at or below 200% of federal poverty levels. Services are provided in school clinics by professional staff and, in special cases, the private offices of volunteer orthodontists, oral surgeons, or pediatric dentists.
"The children we serve come from low-income families which account for 70% to 80% of households in Kanawha County," said Amelia Potesta, DDS, executive director of the Kanawha County Dental Health Council, in a press release. "We are so grateful that the Renaissance Family Foundation has enabled us to provide this much-needed equipment to continue to provide oral health education and services to the children in our communities."
