Care Harbor has received a $50,000 grant from the S. Mark Taper Foundation to continue its annual Los Angeles free clinic.
The large clinic is held each fall at the L.A. Sports Arena and brings health and wellness care to underserved populations, according to Care Harbor.
The fifth annual free clinic, scheduled for October 15 to 18, will provide medical, dental, and vision care. This year, a new insurance education and enrollment component will be introduced, and there will be more specialty care physicians onsite.
"L.A. County's uninsured numbers are not only higher than those of any other county in the U.S., but also higher than most states in the nation," Don Manelli, CEO of Care Harbor, said in a press release. "The generous grant from the S. Mark Taper Foundation will help Care Harbor address this challenge during our annual clinic."
It is estimated that more than 1 million residents of Los Angeles, the majority of them legally present, will not have health insurance at the end of the current open enrollment period, Care Harbor said. Additionally, many of those who are insured live without dental or vision coverage, or have high deductibles they cannot afford to pay.
