New $7.6M dental/medical clinic opens on Minn. reservation

A new $7.6 million health and dental clinic will provide expanded healthcare for members of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa in northern Minnesota.

The 11,000-sq-ft Boise Forte Vermilion Clinic replaces the community's smaller clinic, according to a virginiamn.com story. It also provides telemedicine capabilities that will allow clinic providers to communicate directly with providers at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

The clinic has four operatory rooms for dental services and a room for radiography services. The onsite staff includes one dentist and a dental hygienist, who will be at the clinic three times a week.

Construction of the clinic was provided by a $2.5 million loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Rural Development, a $2 million grant from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, $300,000 from the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board, and $322,568 from Indian Health Services. Indian Health Services also provided the equipment for the clinic.
