J&J oral care sales down 5.5% in Q3

Johnson & Johnson's global oral care product sales declined 5.5% year over year in the third quarter of 2009. The oral care segment of the company's consumer business saw revenue of $410 million for the quarter, compared with $434 million in Q3 2008. U.S. sales declined 8.3%, from $204 million in Q3 2008 to $187 million in Q3 2009.

Total third-quarter sales for Johnson & Johnson were $15.1 billion, down 5.3% from the same quarter a year ago. Worldwide consumer sales were $4 billion, a decrease of 2.7% compared to the third quarter of 2008.

Listerine antiseptic mouthrinse was among the company's consumer products that saw an increase in sales growth, according to a press release. Its other oral care products include Efferdent, Rembrandt, and Reach.
