The attorneys at law firm Parker Waichman Alonso are urging all major retail chains that sell Super PoliGrip denture adhesives, including Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Target, and Duane Reade, to immediately remove three varieties of these products from store shelves.
Their request follow's last week's announcement by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) that the company is going to stop producing, distributing, and marketing its zinc-containing dental adhesive products -- Super PoliGrip Original, Super PoliGrip Ultra Fresh, and Super PoliGrip Extra Care -- and replace them with zinc-free formulations.
While it applauds GSK's decision, the law firm also noted that the company has not issued a full recall of these products. Thus, Super PoliGrip adhesives that contain zinc remain on store shelves and still pose a serious public health risk, the firm said.
"GlaxoSmithKline made the right decision, but the fact remains that it did not go far enough," said Andres Alonso, a partner in the law firm, in a press release. "If GlaxoSmithKline is not willing to issue a recall of these Super PoliGrip varieties, Wal-Mart and the other retailers need to step up and protect their customers."
The firm has filed many lawsuits on behalf of the victims of Super PoliGrip, alleging that GlaxoSmithKline misled consumers about their risks and failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions to prevent deviation from accepted use.
