The company, which manufactures Aquaoral Protective Oral Spray, created the protocol in partnership with Melissa Turner, RDH. It aims to help identify and educate patients on the symptoms of xerostomia, or dry mouth.
Aquaoral is a patented, lipid-based formula that is designed to provide a protective barrier to the oral mucosa that patients can apply after eating or drinking or when they are experiencing dry mouth symptoms.
Xerostomia is estimated to affect 1 in 4 individuals, according to the company. It can increase a person's risk of tooth decay, gum disease, or other oral health conditions. The increased incidence of dry mouth is attributed to medication side effects, the use of continuous positive airway pressure machines, and the increased use of marijuana, according to K Pharmaceuticals.
