While at the recent Greater New York Dental Meeting (GNYDM), DrBicuspid.com was one of the first to see the new Epic Hygiene laser from Biolase. The laser has now officially been granted U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance.

The Epic Hygiene laser is designed by dental hygienists for dental hygienists, according to the company. This new laser system was constructed to give dental professionals a total solution to effectively manage nonsurgical periodontitis and increase clinical production.

The system includes proven step-by-step clinical protocols, including for pocket therapy and perio debridement, for easy implementation.

Biolase believes that Epic Hygiene now gives dental hygienists the ability to offer dental laser technology to their patients, including minimally invasive and virtually pain-free treatments that allow for quicker procedures and faster recovery times.

Each system includes hygiene-specific training, turnkey practice guidebooks with step-by-step practice integration tips, and access to exclusive on-call Epic Expert support, with clinicians to provide peer-to-peer support.

In New York City at the Biolase booth, dental laser expert Dr. Sam Low shared his take on what makes this new laser so unique.

Additionally, Dr. Low recently joined me on a Dental Assistant Nation podcast to discuss what dental assistants should know about lasers. We also discussed some communication tips for dental assistants and other team members to talk to their patients about lasers and their usage in the practice.
