FDA approves St. Renatus' nasal spray anesthetic

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved St. Renatus' nasal anesthetic, Kovanaze, for dentistry.

Kovanaze enables dental anesthesia to be administered through a nasal spray without using a needle, according to the company.

The topical anesthetic can be used for pulpal anesthesia in restorative treatments. Kovanaze includes tetracaine hydrogen chloride (HCl) and oxymetazoline HCl, and it is indicated for regional anesthesia on teeth #4 to #13 and #A to #J in adults and children who weigh at least 40 kg (88.2 lb).
