Kolibree updates smart toothbrush

Kolibree has added more features to its smart sonic toothbrush, including a game app for kids.

The Kolibree Bluetooth-connected sonic toothbrush with 3D motion sensors now includes new features and enhancements for adults and children:

  • A game for children, called Go Pirate 2, rewards proper brushing through scores, badges, and advancing age-based levels.
  • Coach prompts adults on preventive dental care.
  • The Kolibree index combines frequency, regularity, and quality of brushing to monitor dental hygiene habits.
  • Check Up is a visual view of areas the user missed while brushing, and the Reminders feature allows users to set times to brush.

The Go Pirate 2 game and personalized Coach feature are available for the iPhone and are compatible with iOS 9 and Apple Watch. The company has also stabilized Bluetooth connectivity for the iPhone, and current Kolibree users automatically receive app updates.

Kolibree is the only smart toothbrush with a game for the Android operating system, according to the company. Android app updates are planned for later this year, and new iOS and Android games are in development and planned for launch in January 2016.

"As a parent who knows that most children would rather play a game than brush their teeth, combining the two was a logical solution. The intelligence built into the Kolibree toothbrush provides real-time feedback for parents and enables a personalized approach to dental care with the ability to send data directly to a family dentist," stated Thomas Serval, Kolibree CEO and co-founder, in a press release.
