The toothbrush, a CES 2017 Innovation Award honoree, is specifically designed for adults. It features built-in artificial intelligence technology with patented deep-learning algorithms that are embedded inside the Ara on a low-power processor, according to Kolibree. Data from the toothbrush's sensors allow the system to learn users' habits and improve their accuracy. Even when not connected to the system's mobile app, data such as frequency, duration, and brushed areas are saved, and then the information is automatically synced via Bluetooth when the app is open.

The company also announced that the Ara will be the focus of a large clinical study this spring, with testing taking place in the U.S. and Europe, to study how artificial intelligence can change daily behaviors and improve oral care.

Ara is currently scheduled to reach the market in March with a retail price of $129. However, the brush can be preordered on the Kolibree website for $79 through February 28.
