Imtec discontinues 2 implant product lines

Imtec is phasing out the manufacture and sale of its Endure Internal Hex and Hexed-Head two-piece implants. The decision was based exclusively on business issues and is not related to safety or quality of the products, the company said.

"We will continue to support any existing cases you have by maintaining inventory of abutments and prosthetic components for at least six years," stated Keith Henry, national sales manager for Imtec, in a letter sent out to customers June 28. "We have a limited amount of implant inventory for any cases you have scheduled over the course of the next month. We will work with you as you fulfill patient commitments for scheduled cases."

The company will no longer take new orders for the Endure and Hexed-Head implants after July 31, he added. The MDI line of mini-implants is not affected by this phase out.

3M announced last month that it will shut down its Ardmore, OK, dental implant manufacturing facility -- the former Imtec facility -- by the end of the year and move the operations to St. Paul, MN, and Irvine, CA. Imtec was acquired by 3M in July 2008.
