The newest models of the Digora and Schick digital x-ray machines are no more accurate than previous models, according to a study reported in the October, 2007 issue of the Journal of the American Dental Association.
Earlier research found that dentists neither gained nor lost accuracy in switching from film-based x-ray machines to the digital Digora FMX (Soredex) and the Schick CDR (Schick Technologies). Now Soredex has introduced a newer model, the Digora OpTime while Schick has come out with the Schick CDR Wireless. So researchers from the University of Campinas in Brazil and the University of Aarhus in Denmark compared the abilities of the old and new digital machines to detect noncavitated proximal carious lesions in extracted human teeth. They found that overall accuracy was statistically equivalent among the four machines.
